Ever thought you looked a little… weird? Well, things might be looking up for you because casting agents for Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series are looking for people with strange characteristics and odd-looking facial features.

Fewer teeth than usual, extra wrinkles and an unusual amount of body hair are some of the things they are looking for in orcs and goblins. So if you have ever aspired to become a Hollywood star but always thought you look a little strange or not just your average Tom Cruise, then you’re still in with a shot!

Based in Auckland, New Zealand the upcoming show, that starts filming at some point next year is still in the pre-production stage. Right now, two casting agents in Auckland are looking for people to fill the shoes of that one orc who say’s, “Look’s like meats back on the menu, boys!” That could be you.

One of the companies looking for these people has said that they are looking for people with ‘wonderful noses’, which is a nice way of putting it. Whereas the other has asked for “hairy people of all ages and ethnicities”, both companies have, in my opinion, strategically avoided calling the people they’re looking for, well strange.

More descriptions of people they are looking for are; “long lithe dancers”, “stocky mean-looking bikers”, “redheads of all ages, shapes, and sizes, and added the wonderful line of “HAIR HAIR HAIR – if you have natural red hair, white hair, or lots and lots of freckles.

If you are willing to travel to New Zealand and to stay there for a while whilst they film you dancing around like an orc, you’ll receive £148 or $192. Not bad for a day’s work snarling, looking mean and being born in Saruman’s cave basement, out of flesh pods – that won’t happen, wrong age.

Recently Morfydd Clark has been cast as Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings series.

And you probably won’t be lugging a couple of Hobbits on your back across half of Middle Earth either. Amazon’s newest series is to be set a full age, or a couple of thousand years before the event of The Lord of the Rings. We probably won’t be seeing Bilbo, Frodo or even that fool of a Took – Pippin.

So if you think you have what it takes to be an orc or a goblin in Amazon’s Lord of the Rings, then go take a look in the mirror and have a real good think about if you do. You might have to learn a couple of new things about you and come to some realizations, BUT you will be richer for it and have an amazing experience at the same time. That’s a good trade-off.
