Speaking on Twitter, Ubisoft’s Middle East Head of Communications, Malek Teffaha mentioned, “FYI, it won’t be the longest or biggest game in the series. They addressed criticism on this one.” The tweet was translated by VG247.
Meaning that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla could be smaller than Odyssey. This is all to address the criticisms from fans about previous games in the franchise. Fans of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey found the game quite bloated.
Featuring over 60 hours of gameplay, Odyssey gave players an epic quest, but left some fans feeling tired. Fans felt that this massive gameplay length was too much, and mostly held up by meaningless content and long travel times. Major character reveals were stale due to having spend six hours trying to find them.
Although it is true that Valhalla could be smaller, it doesn’t mean the game is small overall. Speaking with IGN, Ashraf Ismail said the game would feature a Norway region and four English Kingdoms, making up “quite a large chunk of England”.
Hopefully Ubisoft opts out the vast, meaningless content for more worthwhile things to do in the game. With rumors of building your Viking settlement, fishing and hunting, it sounds like fans won’t have to travel all across Norway to kill one, single masked target.
