The coronavirus pandemic has seriously rocked the movie industry. Films that were intended for cinematic release have now had to rethink how they release in the future. This dynamic shift has meant many movies have headed straight to a digital format. Tom Hanks’ latest movie has done just that. Greyhound is heading to Apple TV+ and the actor isn’t too happy with this decision…

Hanks has described his new film heading to the streaming service as ‘an absolute heartbreak’. Hanks plays a US Navy commander at the very beginning of the Second World War. Fans were expecting a cinematic release but sadly Sony had to sell the rights to a streaming platform. The bidding war ended in Apple TV+ winning the rights to the movie, hitting the service on July 10th. Sadly, it’s main star has voiced his disappointment…

The Castaway star has not held back!

In a recent interview, hanks described his feelings regarding the decision for Greyhound to air on Apple TV+. The actor stated, “I don’t mean to make angry my Apple overlords, but there is a difference in picture and sound quality.” The experience of watching a movie in the cinema is completely different from the viewing experience at home. And Hanks wishes Greyhound would have had the chance to hit theatres around the world.

The actor has also claimed that Apple requested he conducted press interviews in front of a blank wall instead of his office that included personal belongings. Hanks has called the company ‘cruel whip-masters’ and joked that he is in the witness protection programme. Hanks has made it very clear that he is extremely unhappy that his project has head to the platform. Apple recently announced its strategy to increase it’s subscribers, as the service felt to compete with Netflix they would have to pay for old content. Purchasing a brand new movie is big news for Apple, but Hank and his team wish circumstances were different.
