Users will have the ability to adjust playback speeds to speed up or slow down shows and movies with this new Netflix feature.
The feature will be exclusive to Android mobile users and provide options for 0.5x, 0.75x, 1.25x or 1.5x speeds. Not everyone is on-board with this being rolled out, Director Judd Apatow tweeted this:
It’s clear there is some concern that this changes how the content was intended to be watched. However it gives users the freedom to playback scenes at their own speed where they may have missed details.
YouTube have had the feature available on their platform for the past few years now with little backlash from users. Many have used it to their advantage especially for adjusting tutorial style videos.
According to The Verge Netflix subscribers need to opt in to use the feature with each title. This prevents users from accidentally leaving the settings on for content that they wouldn’t need it for.
The feature will be available globally in the coming weeks. But what do you think of the new feature? Will you be using it or do you prefer watching shows as they were intended?
