Much loved movie Mad Max: Fury Road is finally getting the prequel we all want- Furiosa is in the beginning stages of production! Some cast members have been revealed to the public, and we can’t wait! The 2015 movie became a smash hit, and now fans are finally getting a glimpse of what’s to come for the Furiosa prequel.
Rumors began to circulate just as the pandemic hit. Executives began talks in late March, with discussions about bring the Furiosa prequel to screens. The new film will focus on the life of Imperator Furiosa, with George Miller’s concept finally greenlit by Warner Brothers. There were tons of actors and actresses thrown into the mix. Jodie Miller (Killing Eve) first rumored to be playing Furiosa. But Miller has finally chosen his leads, and we think they are great choices!
According to Deadline, Anya Taylor-Joy is to play the role of Furiosa. The lead actress has made her mark in films such as The New Mutants and Split, with Taylor-Joy being the first choice of Miller’s. Australian superstar Chris Hemsworth (known for Thor and Extraction) will also appear in the Mad Max prequel. Other stars also include Watchmen’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Furiosa will be a standalone story that dives into Charlize Theron’s character from the 2015 film. IMDb describes Mad Max: Fury Road as so:
“In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in search for her homeland with the aid of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshiper, and a drifter named Max”. George Miller will be returning to direct and produce Furiosa, as we will see the origins of Furiosa.
Chris Hemsworth took to Instagram to celebrate the news, sharing his joy of landing the role in Furiosa. The actor posted: “Pretty damn fired up to be a part of a franchise that meant the world to me as a kid growing up in Australia. Mad Max was the pinnacle and a huge reason why I got into the business of telling stories”. We’re so excited to see what they do with the prequel – is Hemsworth a good or bad guy though?!
