Picking a movie or a show on Netflix is set to be a whole lot easier! The streaming service is testing it’s very own TV channel called Netflix Direct. Picking a piece of content proves a difficult task for many people, but that issue could soon be a thing of the past. Could Netflix really rock the world of television?

Variety reported the news, as Netflix rolled its test out in France first. Netflix Direct is of course only available for subscribers of the service and will feature a ton of films and TV series that is currently available on the service. There is one downside currently, and that is that the channel will only be accessible through your web browser. The channel will not be available on ‘set-top boxes’. But this test could change that!

Many people are gutted that the company hasn’t chosen to test the channel in their country. But there is a very good reason why France is the first to test out Netflix Direct. Netflix announced: “In France, watching traditional TV remains hugely popular with people who just want a ‘lean back’ experience where they don’t have to choose shows. We’re trying a new feature for our members in France – called ‘Direct.’ Maybe you’re not in the mood to decide, or you’re new and finding your way around, or you just want to be surprised by something new and different”.

Users may be shocked that Netflix is moving to a pretty ancient tradition, as consumer behavior highlights that streaming services are the new main source of entertainment globally. This will be the first taste of scheduled programming for Netflix. And only time will tell whether users in France enjoy Netflix Direct. Tests in the past have proven pretty successful. And Netflix is one company that actually listens to its users. For example, the service is looking into removing the ‘are you still watching‘ feature. Of course we are still watching. It is 2020 after all, what else is there to do!
