The move over to Peacock has truly been an amazing one. Many of us were pretty gutted to hear the news that The Office was leaving Netflix. The sitcom has only been streaming on Peacock for a number of months, but fans of the show have loved all the exclusive scenes that have dropped. From behind the scenes content to deleted footage, there’s been a ton of unseen clips of our favorite comedy. Millions have been calling for more, and Rainn Wilson himself has now said it should be released!

Dwight Schrute actor Rainn Wilson has suggested that he thinks it’s a great idea to release a director’s cut of The Office, as there is plenty of unseen footage that fans would love. As many of you will know, Brian Baumgartner, who plays Kevin in the show, has launched another podcast. With the success of An Oral History of The Office, Baumgartner has started another podcast called The Office Deep Dive. With the same premise, Baumgartner brings on the cast and crew to chat about episodes of the show. And this is what Rainn Wilson suggested on the podcast!

Wilson said:

“I don’t know if there’s some vault that has all of The Office material — not the first cut, but the rough cut that would get passed around for notes — (the episode) that was too long — the 24-minute cuts of episodes were always way better”.

Talking on the podcast, Rainn Wilson also recalls that cutting down the episodes was a pain because some of the clips that ended up being cut were the funniest in the series. He says:

“I think that would be a smart money-making scheme. To re-release director’s cuts of all the episodes and let them be 24 to 29 minutes long. I think there was a lot more with me and Ellie (Kemper) doing Dothraki early on for Game of Thrones. They cut that down to almost nothing. I was p*ssed. Sometimes Dwight is in the ‘A-story’. But most of the time he’s in the ‘C-story’ and that’s the one that gets cut to the bone”.

While there is no official director’s cut of The Office, Baumgartner and Wilson felt like it was an amazing idea because there is so much unreleased content that was cut. Like Rainn Wilson says, sometimes the main story of the episode isn’t the funniest, but the ‘C-story’.
